Nautilus - Scroll Case

Scroll Case

The Nautilus moderate head turbines are fitted with stainless steel scroll cases and can be attached to a 12 inch pipeline or penstock. The 440 and 660 Francis turbines are installed in a simple round pressure case for this purpose. The use of a penstock, which brings the water to the turbine under pressure, allows the moderate head Nautilus turbines to operate on heads up to 12 meters. The CMC type Nautilus will produce a maximum of 9200 watts and the “T” type scroll case turbine will develop up to 20,000 watts. The 440 and 660 will operate up to 18 meters of head. The 440 will produce a maximum of 6800 watts and the 660 will develop up to 14,800 watts.

Nautilus - 'T' Type Scroll Case

The Nautilus ”T” type has been manufactured for over 10 years. Many of these turbines are installed in the U.K. and the U.S. The hydraulic design is based on a utility grade Francis turbine that is reduced in size and fitted with a trapezoidal section scroll case. This is an unregulated design. The turbine is turned on and off to match available flow with a butterfly valve installed in the penstock. Multiple units can be installed in parallel to match flow or the “T” can be paired with a regulated CMC to achieve the same effect. The Nautilus “T” type is fabricated from stainless steel and iron and designed to be bolted to a 12 inch penstock. It comes fitted with a universal generator mounting plate. The “T” type is supplied with a standard 4 ft long draft tube so that it can be mounted above tail water without any head loss. This protects the turbine and generator from flooding. The “T type can be installed on heads from 1 to 12 meters. Power outputs range from 500 to 20,000 watts depending on head and flow.

Nautilus - 'CMC' Type Scroll Case

The CMC style turbine has been produced in the U.S. since the early 1900’s. This simple regulated Francis turbine was designed for heads of 3 to 12 meters in a simple round pressure case. The modernized stainless steel scroll case increases efficiency, reduces weight, and still incorporates the simple strong gate regulation that has served this design well in the past. Over 4000 CMC design turbines were manufactured with this mechanism and it performed dependably over many years of operation. The CMC scroll case turbine is designed to be bolted to a 12 inch penstock and comes with a universal generator mounting plate. The standard CMC is supplied with a 4 foot long draft tube so that it can be mounted above tailwater without any head loss. This protects the turbine and generator from flooding. The CMC Scroll case turbine operates on heads from 1 to 12 meters and produces from 250 to 9000 watts
